Pop Goes the Question

As summer approaches, it is a time for weddings. So, I thought this week I would share with you about the time my husband popped the big question.

My then boyfriend Randy’s mom threw us a dual birthday BBQ for our family and friends at the historic Felton Covered Bridge Park. When we arrived, I found a comfy park bench to enjoy my breakfast before our guests arrived.

“Hon, I really need your help moving these picnic tables,” Randy said.

“I’ll be there in a moment, Hon. I’m finishing my bagel and coffee.”

“No, I need your help now,” he exclaimed.

“I’m starving and will be with you in a moment.” Hmmm, that’s strange. He’s usually not so demanding.

Our festive picnic table and colorful balloons were shimmering in the sunlight. The smell of mesquite chips waffled through the air. As we put the finishing touches on our volleyball nets, our guests arrived one-by-one.

Two hours later, Randy grilled marinated skirt steaks which complimented everyone’s  potluck dishes.  During our scrumptious meal, our family and friends started roasting us saying things like.

“I remember the first time Rebecca pulled up to our house on her new motorcycle. I thought to myself my daughter is an official biker. Ha!” My dad chuckled.

I giggled. When I turned around, Randy knelt in front of me, grabbed my left hand and said, “Rebecca Lynn Mosberger, will you marry me?”

Tears filled my eyes. I choked out the words, “Yes, I’ll marry you!”

After i accepted, everyone erupted in cheer followed my hugs.

Later, I discovered only my parents knew of his proposal plans. I asked my dad. “Did you know about this?”

“Randy asked me for your hand in marriage recently and I told him. If she’ll have ya, you have my blessing.” He winked.

Sixteen years later this month, we are still going strong living in the majestic Santa Cruz Mountains with our fourteen-year-old son and twelve-year-old daughter who keep us on our toes.

Are you planning to get married or already married and have a proposal story you’d like to share? I’d love to hear about it. Feel free to share with us.
