Recreation

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. – Anonymous 1659

It’s easy to tackle the todo list for me. I have to be purposeful about play. That’s how I am wired.

This past weekend, we were invited to attend a Christian camp in Scotts Valley at Redwood Glen.

We enjoyed fun, food and fellowship with three local churches: Pleasure Point, Hilltop and The Gathering.

Play is natural for children.  Here’s my daughter resting after skateboarding with her friend Heather.

Here’s my son playing basketball with some friends.  His favorite pastime.

We are blessed to work at Mount Hermon and Mission Springs where there are many activities to chose from. Here are some recent outings.

Also, I love the Santa Cruz mountains and ocean. There is so much natural beauty and fun things to do. Here are just a couple of things we enjoy.

There are so many fun things to do as a family, couple or individually.  Again, I need to be purposeful about play, because it’s easy for me to work at the office and then come home to chores, errands, homework help,  etc.

How about you? How do you enjoy recreation?

Blessings,  Rebecca

Good Old Fashion Fun & Giveaway

20180922_123304

This weekend,  my brother Greg and my sister in law Connie joined us in Felton to celebrate my birthday by riding a steam train.

We rode 30 minutes up to Bear Mountain which we learned has the steepest grade in northern America.

The sun was shining through the majestic redwood forest.

We heard bands playing in the background during the Sol Festival celebrating the first day of Fall.

Afterwards, we ate at a local bbq restaurant.  The flavors made our mouths water.

Then, we returned to Mount Hermon to grab an expresso and ice cream. Simply delightful.

Once Greg and Connie headed home to the north bay, we jumped in the car and attended the Saturday night service at Twin Lakes church. We studied Galatians 5:22 The Fruit of the Spirit: Love, joy, peace, patience,  kindness,  goodness,  faithfulness,  gentleness and self-control. The one take away I learned is to avoid a killjoy of negative thoughts, because they affect your mood.

As we rode through the redwoods, I thought to myself, This is good old fashion fun. Just hanging out with family on a beautiful day enjoying nature. I love it!

Company Picnic

Starting at Top Left: Husband Randy, Son Austin, Brother Greg, Sister-in-Law Connie, Daughter Alicia and Me…

It had been several years since went to a theme park. So, when my Sister-in-Law invited us to her company picnic, we jumped at the chance.

It was held at California’s Great America in Santa Clara, just about 45 minutes north of us.

We had a blast riding all the rides. The Gold Striker is the fastest roller coaster in Northern California. It’s top speed is 54mph, is 3 minutes long and tops out at 4.2g. Talk about exhilarating! My brother and I rode the Flight Deck, an inverted roller coaster, together.  It had been over 20 years since we did that. What a hoot!

Her company also reserved an area in the park for volleyball, tetherball and other picnic games. There was a raffle as well.

We were also visited by the park’s characters as shown above.

The BBQ lunch was finger licking good chicken, ribs, potatoes salad, bread and all you drink soda  fountain. Oh, I can’t fail to mention a freezer stocked with various ice cream…help yourself!

The weather was a perfect 75F with cool bay breezes.

All in all, we had a fantastic family time.

How about you? Have you visited any fun places this summer? I would love to hear about it. Please feel free to share with us.

How is your summer going? We are enjoying Family Camp this week. So far, we have soaked up some sun during outside recreational activities, ate delicious food prepared by the dining crew and attended inspirational worship/sermon services/classes.

Yesterday, we had a blast at the ranch playing on the slip n slide, listening to blue grass music, testing out the archery range and shooting BB rifle targets.

Today, it’s beach day and the kids are excited to go the Boardwalk with their youth group.

Tomorrow, we will attend their old fashioned carnival games and Fourth of July parade. I can’t wait!

Do you do things together to refresh as a family? I would love to hear about it!
