Get Away

It has been 2-3 years since our family took a vacation. So, when our friend called to offer her cabin in Arnold, California, we jumped at the chance to get away.

We drove 3 1/2 hours north of Santa Cruz redwoods/ocean and discovered a whole new world of pine/oak trees and beautiful lakes. The top picture was taken at Lake Alpine in the Stanislaus National Forest. It was absolutely gorgeous! We rented two double kayaks and paddles around the lake. We stopped on a rock island and jumped into the snow melt water. Brrrr…

Our cabin was a quaint 1950’s A Frame. It was delightfully retro. We enjoyed the community resort which included a golf course, swimming pool, lake, table tennis, basketball, tennis courts, and snack shack. We even won a round of bingo. The middle photo is of our 15 yr-old son Austin and 12 yr-old daughter Alicia sitting on a boulder in the Sierra mountain range.

We had a blast on our family vacation and hope to play again real soon.

Did your family enjoy a summer vacation this year? If so, I’d love to hear about it. Please share with us.

As I reflect on another year on planet Earth, I realized I had been remise in spending quality time with girlfriends.

So, when my friend, Annette, invited me to a local women’s church retreat, I jumped on it.

Below, we are pictured next to a grove of gorgeous redwood trees located in the majestic Santa Cruz mountains.

We had a blast talking for hours around a firepit, eating food we didn’t have to prepare, worshipping God, and listening to our guest speakers share their life experiences.

One bit of wisdom I walked away with is being a part of a purposeful community where we allow others to minister to us and where can minister to them.

Man, I needed to hear that, because I tend to go at life independently much of the time. However, it is wearisome and as women, daughters, sisters, wives and mothers we need each other’s support.

Let us consider how we may spur one

another on toward love and good deeds,

not giving up meeting together, as some

are in the habit of doing, but encouraging

one another… – Hebrew’s 10:24-25
